I just realized that I have not told everyone about the upcoming recital.... SO SORRY! It is June 29th at 7:00 PM at Daynes Music. Please arrive on time as we will start promptly.
Also, the masterclass is going to be this coming Monday the 28th at 4:00. We will be preparing for the recital so please plan to be there and stay the whole time. It will last about 45-60 minutes. This is a class for EVERYONE. Please let me know it you have any questions or concerns. Thanks!

Masterclass this week!

There will be two Masterclasses this month. One for older students and one for younger. Here is the Info for each one...
Older: Wednesday 4:30 PM (half hour long)

Younger: Wednesday 5:00 (45 minutes long)

February Masterclass
Masterclass this week will be on Tuesday at 4:30. This is a class for everyone. It will be about 45 minutes. But may last as long as an hour. Since almost everyone is preparing for Federation, it is important to come and stay the whole time so that everyone has an audience.
Students who need to have Make-up lessons are:

November Masterclass
Since we are preparing for the December recital and some people are doing duets, I am going to have a few duet masterclasses and then a class where everyone will come.
The Duet classes will be held on Monday and Wednesday as follows:

Also, with Federation coming up, the fee is $12/student. I need to have the paperwork for Federation in with the fee by the middle of December, but the sooner the better. So, if everyone that is participating in Federation could get me their fee ASAP, that would be great! Thanks!

Upcoming October events
JAZZ: BIG BANDS PLAY BOP
The School of Music Jazz Big Bands will make their season debut Thursday, October 1, at 7:30 p.m. in Libby Gardner Concert Hall. The “Big Bands Play Bop” program will feature the world premier of “Radioactive,” by Jazz Band 2 Director Dave Chisholm, along with jazz compositions and arrangements by Maynard Ferguson, Stan Kenton and more. Jazz Band 1 is directed by Henry Wolking. Tickets are $7 general admission and $3 for students. Tickets can be purchased at www.kingsburyhall.org or by calling 801-581-7100.
SUNDAYS@7 FACULTY SPOTLIGHT: AN EVENING OF BAROQUE MUSIC
Sundays@7, the School of Music’s free faculty recital series, will feature an evening of baroque music by acclaimed faculty musicians in a spotlight concert on Sunday, October 4, at 7 p.m. in Libby Gardner Concert Hall. Harpsichordist Pamela Jones and soprano Cheryl Hart, who directs the Early Music Ensemble, will be joined by Lisa Chaufty and Kim Grundvig on recorders, with Leslie Richards on viola da gamba. The program will include works by Byrd, Phillips, Bull, Corelli, Telemann and Handel. Sundays@7 is the School of Music’s free, one-hour faculty recital series, which offers the community a chance to enjoy the School of Music’s professional musicians close to home for no charge. Sunday parking is available on and around Presidents Circle.

Faculty piano duo Ning Lu and Jie Lu will present a chamber concert with renowned violinist Kelly Parkinson on Tuesday, October 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Libby Gardner Concert Hall. The talented trio will perform works by Busoni, Chopin and Debussy. Admission is free and all are welcomed to attend.
VISITING ARTIST: VIOLINIST LINA BAHN
Acclaimed violinist Lina Bahn will present a free recital on Monday, October 5, at 7:30 p.m. in Dumke Recital Hall. Described by The Washington Post as “brilliant” and “lyrical,” the assistant professor of violin at the University of Colorado, Boulder is known as a champion of new music and a versatile performer of many styles. Bahn will also offer a free master class on Tuesday, October 6, at 9 a.m. in Dumke Recital Hall. Admission is free to both events and all are welcomed to attend.
CHAMBER MUSIC SOCIETY: TRIO CON BRIO COPENHAGEN
The Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City presents Trio con Brio Copenhagen on Wednesday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Libby Gardner Concert Hall. Praised for its sparkling tone, magic dialogue and vast musical range, the trio ranks among the best chamber music groups today. Korean sisters Soo-Jin Hong and Soo-Kyung Hong, true masters of piano, perform with Danish-born cellist Jens Elvekjaer, presenting works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Smetana. Tickets are $25 general admission and $5 for students, and can be purchased at the door.

Since composing his first song at age 5 and becoming a member of the Dominican Republic’s National Symphony Orchestra at age 16, this world-renowned pianist and composer has risen to the top of the charts with every performance and each new CD release. Combining his classical training from The Juilliard School with his own Latin-jazz roots, the Grammy Award-winning artist creates an entirely new sound that leaves audiences enraptured. The Boston Globe described Camilo as “A force to be reckoned with” and “among the best.”

The School of Music’s haunted orchestra, the Utah Philarmonia, will present “Neumes from the Tombs” on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23 and 24, at 7:30 p.m. in Libby Gardner Concert Hall. This always spectacular Halloween event will feature violinist Hasse Borup, the University Lyric Opera Ensemble and dancers from the U of U Ballet Department. The spooky program will include music for the whole family by Verdi, Tchaikovsky, Williams, Saint-Saens and more. Tickets are $7 general admission and $3 for students. The audience is welcomed to join the orchestra and conductor, Dr. Robert Baldwin, in wearing Halloween costumes. Tickets can be purchased at www.kingsburyhall.org or by calling 801-581-7100.

Renowned pianist Victor Rosenbaum will perform in concert with faculty violinist Gerald Elias on Sunday, October 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Libby Gardner Concert Hall. The collaboration will feature sonatas for violin and piano by Mozart, Brahms and Beethoven. Rosenbaum is the former chair of the piano department at the New England Conservatory and has performed widely as a soloist and chamber music performer throughout the world. Elias is the associate concertmaster of the Utah Symphony and adjunct professor of music at the University of Utah. Following the performance, there will be a book-signing event for Elias’s new classical-music themed mystery novel, “Devil’s Trill.” Some proceeds from book sales will help support the School of Music scholarship fund. Admission is free and all are welcomed to attend.
